Day 9 & 10: Paris

I'll recap day 9 with one word: Thesis. Stayed in the dorm all day and worked on Thesis. Extremely exciting. Friday however was a different story. We woke up early and caught the 7:00 train from St. Pancras station in London to Paris, France. I was with three other guys: Allan, Nick, and Drew, and we were going to catch a taxi to our hotel, Hotel George Opera, but after studying the map for a few minutes decided it was only about a mile away and that we could walk. Luckily it wasn't too bad but Paris has one of the most confusing street systems I've ever seen. Finally we made it and gave the front desk our bags before heading back out for some lunch. 4.90 Euros for a sandwich and a drink was a much welcome surprise compared to Switzerland, where it was pretty much impossible to eat for less than $15 a meal. Once we had finished lunch we headed on over toward the Eiffel Tower. We had 6:30 tickets for the ride up and it was only about 3, so we wondered around for a few hours around the tower exploring the park and people watching. When it was our time we took the first elevator up, which brings you to the second level, and then the second elevator, which brings you to the third and tallest level of the tower. The view was absolutely breathtaking, completely worth the 13 Euros we paid for the ticket up. We started to get hungry so we headed back down and found a decent looking cafe a few blocks from the tower. After dinner had finished it was starting to get dark and we were heading back to the tower to watch the lights turn on when we met some people from back home. When I mean back home I mean some people from Ole Miss, Miss. State, UGA, and a few more I can't remember who were also studying abroad all over Europe. We got to hang out with them all night while watching the tower, and it was kind of refreshing to get to talk to some people from back home in the middle of Paris. Once it started getting late we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep, as we had a big day planned the next day. Here's the first of a lot of pictures from the weekend.

They had a pretty heavy security presence around the tower.

View from the top.

In the evening literally thousands of people gather around the Eiffel Tower just to hang out. Pretty cool.
